Takahashi 3 Straight Gouge

Gouges are the main tool of the wood carver and come in a variety of sizes and sweeps (transverse curvature of the blade). Generally speaking, gouges with deeper sweeps and larger sizes will remove a greater amount of material and are used for roughing out and for intermediate and finish work on carvings and sculptures of larger size. Narrower gouges are generally used for finish and detail cuts and for most work on smaller carvings.
