Japanese Kebiki Dai
Marking Gauges
These Marking Gauges (Kebiki Dai) are
used to layout straight lines parallel to the edge of your work. They
provide a far more precise, accurate line on stock than does a pencil.
Unlike Western marking gauges, the cutters of Kebiki are sharpened with only
a single bevel. This give a very clean line without any tearing of the
grain. The blades are made from high carbon tool steel and the bodies from
best quality Japanese White Oak or Japanese Red Oak.
Marking Gauge (Kebiki Dai)
This Kebiki is used for scoring lines
parallel to a straight edge. It is also quite useful for layout work of many
types of joints, including dovetail and box joints.
