Back Channel Traditional Beech Joiner's Mallet
These are well-made mallets of Pennsylvania
Beech. The standard size mallet heads are 2 3/8" x 3" x 4 5/8". The overall
length is 13" long. The large size mallet heads are 2 5/8" x 3 1/2" x 5 5/8".
The overall length is 16" long. A leather wrist strap is provided for hanging.
Most mallets are too light. We soaked ours in boiled linseed oil for 30 days or
more. This adds a significant amount of weight to the head and extends the life
of the mallet, and we have added two brass pins as well. It weighs 24 ounces.
The flat face of our mallet is better suited for joinery work. A round face will
deflect and is appropriate for carving. The standard size mallet will handle 95%
of your shop work needs, while the large size is for heavy duty timber framing.
Hand crafted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Mallets are useful outside of woodworking too. We've sold
them for use as gavels, paperweights, and most recently as
ice crushers for sophisticated
cocktails.
