Radial Match Booklet by Schürch
This eight page booklet describes
the procedure for creating the radial match (also called the sunburst, starburst
or the "pizza" match). This is copied from Chapter 3 of the DVD and Book
"Marquetry", and is usually sold with the radial templates, item T205. There are
drawings and various techniques described. A brief description on creating
radial matches goes as follows:
The template is placed over a bundle (10,12 or 16 pieces) of veneer, and used to
mark out the triangular shape. The whole stack can be cut with the veneer saw
and the V-edge, and the joints cleaned up with a sanding block. It can also be
used to mark and cut each leaf individually with the chisel or scalpel using the
template or V-edge as a fence. Care must be taken not to cut into the template,
and the template needs to be placed in the same spot leaf after leaf, so that
the grain pattern will line up around the circle. The leaves would normally be
laid out in a bookmatch pattern to maximize the starburst effect, or selected at
an angle to create herringbone effect. (Schürch ®)
